Great Stowe Day...Or Should I Say Snow Day?

Had a great day at Stowe last Tuesday. We decided to hold off on our Monday trip and let it all ride on Tuesday and I am glad we did. Constant light snow made conditions perfect all day. Lifts were empty and it was as if we had the mountain to ourselves. We consistently found fresh pow run after run, whether it was on groomers or in the trees. With Wednesday rain in the forecast and the way this Winter is going, I knew this might be my last shot at some decent riding. I had to make sure I got in as much as I could. So with three minutes before last chair we made our way up to the top of the mountain and to a spot we saw earlier in the day, a nice stash of untouched woods just waiting for us. It was just awesome riding and a great way to finish the day. My only other memory of Stowe was my pathetic attempt at skiing when I was twelve, so it was nice to replace those with more pleasant ones. Having a timeshare to go there now year after year, I look foward to adding to those good memories!

WHITE DOES IT AGAIN

Shaun White took home the gold on Sunday night, winning yet another Superpipe final and becoming the Winter X Games most successful athlete in the process. In perhaps his best performance ever Shaun White accomplished something that no other rider has ever been able to do. White’s run included a frontside big air, front- and backside 1080s, and – to top it off – a frontside 1260 at the bottom of the pipe. It was the first time any rider has landed a 1260 in competition, not to mention doing it after back to back 10’s and in snowy conditions. Simply amazing!

Graduation Day

This weekend was a very proud one for me. I watched my babies develop into the boarders that I knew they always could be. The transformation didn't take place over night. There were many a time that I thought I may have lost you guys. There was that brutal weekend at Jay. Can't forget the time Jeff fell off the lift and into a ditch. Justin learned that when going snowboarding, it is best to leave your wool Gap gloves at home. Along the way I myself have gotten off course. Sometimes when your development didn't go as planned, I turned to dark places to soothe my frustrations. Which may or may not have caused that tragic night at Hunter Mountain. The one that ended in the emergency room of Long Island Jewish Hospital, I will let you be the judge of that. I would be lying to you if I said it was easy, there was blood shed, teeth lost and frostbitten fingers, but you guys made it through. And so, I send you off to venture for yourselves, into the ever changing world of snowboarding.

JUST A LITTLE HUMOR...GONNA GET SNOW THIS WEEKEND...GONNA GO SUNDAY W/JAIME!!!ANY TAKERS???

Jealousy

As I sit around and wait anxiously for the snow to start falling in the Catskills, I can’t help but feel a little jealous of our neighbors to the North. While the weather down here has got my emotions in a confused state of chaos, Jay Peak has been blessed with almost 45 inches of snow thus far and it is only the middle of November. But are we really surprised, although small in comparison to mountains in the West, Jay packs a big punch. Year after year Jay’s annual snowfall numbers continue to raise the bar here on the East, while holding its own with the monsters of the West. The snow gods have been rather generous to our friends of the North, maybe its time for us to start paying homage to this higher power. But for now I will have to settle for my day trips to the Catskills and dream of what it would be like if I were at Jay.

SALT LAKE ANYONE?

I am trying to get a trip together for Salt Lake City, preferably Solitude. Originally it was going to be before we go to Las Vegas but that seems to be impossible. I was thinking maybe a trip in March. Let me know the deal if anyone is interested. If I cant get people together, I am going to try and setup a trip to Jay Peak during Presidents week. Let me know the deal and your input. In the mean time, the season is upon us, get up and go!

eBay for lift tickets...Crazy?

I have been searching eBay the last couple of days on an almost regular basis, in search of discounted lift tickets. And no I am not crazy, I just figured if I can take advantage early it might help me save later. What I managed to find were a couple of one day passes to Belleayre for $11.00 w/shipping, not a bad deal. There aren’t many listed yet, but you will get the occasional ticket or two that pop up. Last year there were tons of them for Mount Snow and Killington. I suggest you take advantage while you can. I already have two one day passes to Belleayre.
